STIRRING, VIGOROUS, GRANDLY MELODIC. MOJO

A SENSE OF GENUINE BEAUTY. SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

NIGHT SKY IS THE SOUNDTRACK TO A FILM TOO HEARTBREAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL TO EXIST. MESS & NOISE

Compared with the likes of Michael Nyman, Max Richter and Nils Frahm, Sydney pianist Sophie Hutchings gained much critical acclaim worldwide for her stunning music. Her debut album Becalmed scored a spot in UK music bible Mojo’s top 5 independent releases for 2010 and she continued to establish her unique presence with the 2012 album, Night Sky. Balancing a beautiful fragility with a deeper sense of urgency creates a striking charge to Hutchings’ work with a lightness of touch making for many shades set within Hutchings’ beguiling vision. Hutchings is currently writing for a third album, to be recorded with The Necks’ producer of choice, Tim Whitten.
